design for a new plaza in minamisanriku,

(a vilagge in the tohoku area struck by the

tsunami disaster in 2011)

considering the masterplan done by kengo kuma office.

The proposal for Minamisanriku, an area that was struck by the tsunami disaster in 2011 suggests an alternative solution to building a protection wall in order to protect from future disasters. It foresees a change in the functional division. Residential areas would be located in the protected hills up the lower plain and traditional agriculture and fishing industry would stay in the lowlands next to the seaside. In order to enhance agricultural activities a felxible infrastructure and new connections were designed in order to promote those occupations.
