Die Angstproduktionsmaschine wurde als Installation und Performance für den Ausstellungsabend “Echoed in the Wells of Silence” kuratiert von begleitet von Johanna Tinzl, im Rahmen der Veranstaltungsreiche “Die Kubatur des Kabinetts” im Fluc am Praterstern entwickelt. Der Praterstern als sogenannte “Problemzone” der Stadt und dessen mediales Echo aus dem Jahr 2016 diente als Ausgangspunkt, um die Ökonomie der Angst und ein steigendes Sicherheitsbedürfnis zu thematisieren. Fragen nach der Rolle der und des Interesses der Medien im Zusammenhang mit der Stigmatisierung von Orten, dem rasant wachsenden Wirtschaftssektor privater Sicherheitsdienste und Schlagzeilen, welche LeserInnen locken und Angst verbreiten, werden thematisiert. Die BesucherInnen wurden mit einer Ausweiskontrolle und einem individuellen Rechnungsbeleg mit Schlagzeilen vom Praterstern konfrontiert.
The “Angstproduktionsmaschine” (engl. “Fearproductionmachine”) was developed as an installation and performance for the exhibition evening “Echoed in the Wells of Silence”, curated and tutored by Johanna Tinzl, in the course of the series of exhibitions “Die Kubatur des Kabinetts” at Fluc at Praterstern in Vienna. The “Praterstern” as a so-called “problematic area” of the city and its media echo from the year 2016 served as material and inspiration to tackle the economy of fear and the growing insecurity. The project raises questions about the role and the interests of the media in connection with the stigmatisation of places, the growing economy of private security firms and headlines that sell and spread fear. Visitors were confronted with a security check at the door and individual receipts with headlines from “Praterstern”.
